Coastal Carolina announces MLK Celebration

Coastal Carolina University will present its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Wall Auditorium.

According to a news release, the event will feature remarks by the Rev. Keith C. Braddy, pastor at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Conway. The event is free and open to the public.

The campus-wide celebration is part of the University’s 2009 African-American Celebration that continues with events promoting unity and diversity through mid-April, the release said.

Braddy, who is also pastor at the Christian Life Center Church of God in Christ in Florence, is a native of Newark, N.J. He earned a bachelor’s degree in religious studies at Indiana University and a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York. He is pursuing a Master of Sacred Theology degree at Yale University Divinity School. He served as a former chaplain for the World Trade Center crisis in New York City following the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.

According to the release, the program is co-sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta sororities at Coastal Carolina University.
