CCU to celebrate Alcohol Awareness Month

Coastal Carolina University will celebrate Alcohol Awareness Month with the events scheduled during the week of Monday, Oct. 12 through Saturday, Oct. 17.  The events are intended to educate students on the responsible use of alcohol. The week long event is sponsored by the University’s Alcohol Coalition, Smart Choice Campaign and Counseling Services.

The presentation of the HBO Documentary, “Addiction: Why They Can’t Just Stop,“ from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, is free and open to the public. The film will be presented in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration auditorium and is a part of the Psychology Film Series.

The film explores the hidden American epidemic of addiction through the use of personal narratives, statistics and interviews with experts on the subject. The film counters the myth that addicts are weak and immoral, discusses research that shows the effects of chemical dependency on the brain, and asserts that it is often virtually impossible for addicts to simply quit.

The awareness to alcohol is next week. That’s a bit late for the 2 CCU soccer players that were just arrested for drunk and disorderly.

Oh, and what about the drunken 17 yo CCU student that just ran over a biker at 2 o’clock in the morning?

Why is there not a MADD chapter in Horry County?
