The Myrtle Beach man accused of throwing a firework into a teenage delivery boy’s car was in court Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Robert Kegler with Horry County Police says 24-year-old Marcus Rush of Myrtle Beach has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill. Tuesday, a judge set his bond at $30,000 and placed him under home detention.

The delivery driver, 16-year-old Myrtle Beach High School student Jacob Robinson, was delivering food to a home in the area when police say Rush ran up to the car and threw a firework inside.

Police said they believe the firework to be a Roman candle and it burned Robinson in the small of his back and left him with 15 percent of his body burned, according to the police report.

Robinson’s father, Zach, told News13 in a telephone interview from the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, that his son continues recovering and is talking to visitors and family as of Monday afternoon.

Zach Robinson said his son has severe burns up his back, his left leg, left arm, buttocks, and his left hand that doctors said was the most severely burned, according to Zach.

Jacob underwent his first surgery Saturday and doctors performed a skin graft over the weekend, according to the boy’s father.

I do not feel that the race of the parties is an important factor.  This was just a very tragic and inhumane act and deserves to be treated as such by the courts.

What the hell was that nut thinking? It would be interesting to know what his past has been. Is this an isolated case of stupidity or does he have a history of cruel behavior? That young man’s medical bills will be a lot more than $30,000 and his pain and suffering is priceless. Was it a hate crime? Of course not. The victim is white. If it was the other way around it would be a hate crime.

This jerk should sit in jail, no bond. Why do we let people out of jail when they are guilty? This poor kid id getting skins grafts and this LOSER is out? That is why people repeat crimes, they don’t have to pay for them.
