CONWAY – Animal adoptions and owner drop-offs resumed Friday at the Horry County Animal Shelter.
According to a news release from Horry County Public Information Officer Lisa Bourcier, a visual assessment of all the animals currently residing at the shelter was completed by a veterinarian Thursday afternoon and again Friday morning, and no animals exhibited any signs of distemper.
A temporary suspension of animal adoptions and owner drop-offs came after Horry County received notification on Tuesday, February 24, that a recently adopted puppy was exhibiting symptoms indicative of distemper. It was determined on Thursday, February 26, that the puppy in question did test positive for distemper, the release said.
Bourcier says in an effort to assist and encourage citizens to properly vaccinate their pets, the Horry County Humane Society will offer a low-cost Vaccination Clinic March 8, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the animal shelter located at 2101 Industrial Park Road in Conway.
The vaccinations, for dogs and cats only, will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier.
