A 14-year-old student at St. James Middle School was arrested Thursday after allegedly taking a kitchen knife and a hammer on board a school bus.

Principal Dr. Dwight Boykin says students on board the bus reported the weapons to the bus driver when they arrived at school Thursday morning.

Sgt. Bob Carr, spokesman for Horry County Police, says the school’s resource officer arrested the boy and charged him with carrying a weapon onto school property.
The boy was later released into the custody of his parents.

Dr. Boykin tells News 13 the teen is now going through the disciplinary process.
Horry County schools have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to weapons on school property.
