Work begins on Durant Children’s Center satellite office
This group from St. Luke United Methodist Church in Hartsville helped remove carpet and clean up the West Carolina Avenue building that will serve as the new Hartsville satellite center of the Durant Children’s Center.
As part of their ministry missions’ project, several St. Luke United Methodist Church youth and parents spent an afternoon ripping up carpet and clearing the building at 510 W. Carolina Ave. in Hartsville, which will be the new Durant Children’s Satellite Center - a child advocacy center.
A child advocacy center is a child-focused program where representatives from many disciplines meet to discuss and make decisions about the investigation, prosecution, intervention and treatment of child abuse cases. They also work together to prevent further victimization of children. Children who are victims of physical and sexual abuse require services from multiple systems.
The Durant Children’s Satellite Center in Hartsville will provide child sensitive forensic interviews, medical evaluations, therapeutic intervention, victim advocacy and support, multidisciplinary case reviews and ongoing case tracking.
All of these services will be provided in one child-friendly, centrally located center. For more information on how you and your church can help with volunteer opportunities, please call Sharon Moon at (843) 383-0240.
