Teachers throw Halloween party

JOHNSONVILLE—The social committee at Johnsonville Middle School is back in the swing of things and ready to do their bit to make this a great, fun year for the faculty, staff and students as well as a learning experience they won’t forget.

Their first “fun” project of this school year was a Halloween themed party at noon on Friday of last week.
The conference room was turned into a party room for sure with a color scheme of orange and black. The refreshment table was covered in shades of orange and black plaid linen. The centerpiece was a cleverly designed floral arrangement of dried branches (twigs), dried hydrangea, long stemmed black roses and touches of orange silk flowers.

At the top a lone black crow was perched on one of the limbs of the twigs. Here and there were also touches of purple.
Although Halloween decorations were everywhere, the outstanding piece was the “teaching skeleton” dressed to the hilt in furs and all kinds of attire. Donnell Mace said, “We’ve been using her in our teaching for at least 28 years, learning all the bones of the body. We just decided to dress her up differently. You might say this is her coming out party.”

If you’ve been privileged to attend a function at graduation or some other special occasion in the gym, you’ve seem this “teaching lady” before prominently displayed with a desk, books, ferns and a red potted geranium. She is very versatile, to say the least.

In the spirit of community service, Principal Randy Willis purchased the lunch of chicken pileau from the Johnsonville Fire Department who was holding their annual benefit that day, and the female faculty members were providing the desserts.
