Lake City’s Main Street Elementary School has been recognized for promoting the use of educational technology in teaching and learning.

The recognition was announced at SC EdTech 2009, the annual conference that focuses on innovative uses of technology to enhance student achievement. The conference is a project of the South Carolina Association for Educational Technology, represented by multiple partners including K-12 education, higher education, state government agencies and telecommunications firms.

Innovative Programs Awards went to Doby’s Mill Elementary School in Lugoff (Kershaw County School District), Fairfield County’s Fairfield Career and Technology Center, and the Chesterfield County School District. Main Street Elementary School received an honorable mention.

The awards honor schools or districts that have exhibited excellence or exemplify best practices in the integration of technology in education.

“Making It Happen” individual awards went to a former educator, MaryAnn Sansonetti, who now works for W.H. Platts Co., a consumer electronics firm, and to Christopher Craft, a teacher at Crossroads Middle School in School District 5 of Richland and Lexington Counties.

This award, sanctioned by the International Society for Technology in Education, highlights the influence that individuals in South Carolina have on the learning process. It recognizes commitment and innovation to technology in education that has made a profound impact in the Palmetto State. To date, more than 100 educators across the country and around the world have received “Making It Happen” honors.
