School year requires commitment to hard work
Special to the Star and Enterprise

By this point in the school year you may be feeling frustrated with the volume and length of the homework assignments your children are coming home with daily. Education in today’s society has become much more competitive than when either you or I were attending school.
As a state and country we have to continue to progress in the education of our children. I firmly believe that every student in our state should posses a solid education to help guide and propel them through their future. In addition, in these tough economic times, education is the fundamental base that will help us to become more competitive with other nations and states in the areas of job investment.
Although there is much time involved in educational endeavors nowadays, don’t forget to stop and smell the roses. I know most of us look back fondly as we recall our school years. During these years learning is priority but so are activities like playing sports, spending time with friends and staying involved in a community service project. It can be as simple as helping out an elderly neighbor or spending a few hours at the local food banks. Please encourage your kids to enjoy their childhood years and give back to their community. As we strive for balance in our own lives, we must encourage our children to strive for that same balance.
So when the volume of homework overwhelms you and your children are getting frustrated, just remember that this is your child’s future. If they excel now, they will easily excel in the workforce. They are learning that hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence are the stepping stones to success in their lives.
