DHEC offers seasonal flu clinics

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will hold a seasonal flu clinic at its Hartsville Public Health Department, 130 E. Camden St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1.

Cost: $25. DHEC accepts cash, check, Medicaid or Medicare. You will need to bring your Medicaid or Medicare Part B card with you if you have one. Do not let the cost prevent you from seeking your flu shot. Call (866) 411-5767 to ask how DHEC can help.

“Call to schedule an appointment,” said Derrick Mims, regional health director. “We do not want individuals to have to wait.”

Other clinics will be held 8:30 to 5 p.m. Thursdays by appointment.

Toll free: (866) 411-5767 to make an appointment.

TeQuan Coe to perform on violin at Gospel in the Park

A 12-year-old Hartsville Middle School student will perform on the violin at the next Gospel in the Park concert Oct. 4 at Pride Park on South Sixth Street in Hartsville.

TeQuan Coe will begin by playing “Amazing Grace.”

“I started playing the violin in the third grade while attending Thornwell School for the Arts,” Coe said. “I learned the basic ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ in the fourth. I got a little more experienced, but my most challenging and awesome experiment came while I was in the fifth grade and got a new teacher, Ms. Rosa Kelly, and she taught me the difference between reading notes and playing the violin. She’s my greatest inspiration and she motivates me to keep going.”

Coe attends Galilee Apostolic Church and is the son of Vanessa Robinson. He has an older brother, Tetus Wilson.

Newsweek Ranks Sonoco One of the 100 Greenest Large American Companies

Sonoco, one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, has been ranked as one of the 100 greenest large companies in the United States in Newsweek’s inaugural Green Rankings, which evaluated the country’s 500 largest companies on their environmental performance, green policies and reputation. Sonoco was listed 94th in the rankings.

Leading environmental researchers KLD Research & Analytics, Trucost, and CorporateRegister.com worked with Newsweek for more than a year to develop the list and rankings. To help level the playing field for companies in carbon-intensive businesses, more than half of each company’s Green Score was based on its environmental policies and reputation. The 500 companies included in the rankings are the largest U.S. companies as measured by revenue, market capitalization and number of employees.

“When you look at the companies that made the top 100 and consider the in-depth research that was done in compiling the rankings, we’re extremely proud to be recognized,“ said Harris E. DeLoach Jr., Sonoco chairman, president and chief executive officer, noting that Sonoco had the best ranking of any U.S. based packaging company.
