Graham to hold town meeting Friday at FMU

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will hold a town hall meeting 9 a.m. Friday the Smith University Center at Francis Marion University in Florence. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend and Graham will take questions from the audience. Individuals are prohibited from bringing signs and materials into the Smith University Center.

Friends of Humane Society to host reception in honor of Malloy

The Friends of the Darlington County Humane Society will hold a reception honoring Sen. Gerald Malloy from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at Oak Manor Inn, 314 E. Home Ave., Hartsville.

Wilson Senior Care names new director of nutritional services

On July 27, Robert Orr took on the role as director of nutritional services with Wilson Senior Care at Medford Nursing Center, Darlington. In this role, he manages all aspects of the residents’ dietary needs at both Medford and Oakhaven Nursing Centers. He graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, England with a BSc (Honors) degree with a major in management and a minor in hotel and catering.

Orr has lived in Darlington for eight years. He is married to Lynne Orr. They have two children, Paul and Robert, and two grandchildren, Caiden and Sophie, with two more expected in October and November respectively.

NRC names new senior resident inspector at Robinson

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials have selected Jim Hickey as the new senior resident inspector at Progress Energy’s Robinson nuclear power plant, located near Hartsville. Hickey received a Bachelor of Science degree, specializing in electrical engineering, from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1987. He held a senior reactor operator license at the Turkey Point plant from 1992 until he joined the NRC in 2003.

Air Force Reserve Airman Kenni King graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Loriann King of Hartsville and grandson of Dorothy King of Hyattsville, Md. King is a 2007 graduate of Hartsville High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Deshaun Jordan has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Jordan is the son of Regina Jordan of Darlington and grandson of Sharon Hite of Indianapolis, Ind.

Army Pvt. Jessica C. McBride has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia. She is the granddaughter of Eugenia Blackwell of Hartsville and daughter of Cathy Callaway of Florence. McBride is a 2005 graduate of Hartsville High School.
