DARLINGTON – Jennifer O’Shesky, a teacher from Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School in Society Hill, was named Darlington County’s Outstanding First Year Teacher during Monday night’s board meeting.

O’Shesky is a graduate of Grand Valley State University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in group social studies, and she currently teaches fourth grade at Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School.

As the District Outstanding First Year Teacher, O’Shesky will be a member of the Darlington County Leadership Council and the Darlington County Teacher Forum.

“It really doesn’t matter which content area one observes in Ms. O’Shesky’s class, the general climate is one of excitement, lots of student collaboration and the teacher as the biggest cheerleader of each child,” wrote Kim Mason, principal of Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School.

“On all fronts, she shows what the best teachers strive to demonstrate in our schools: precision in teaching, an abundance of care and concern and the ability to make each day a better, more productive one by building on what her students learned the day before.”

A panel of judges composed of honor roll teachers and a former Outstanding First Year Teacher narrowed the field of twelve nominees down to three finalists based on the candidates’ essays. In addition to O’Shesky, the finalists were Angela Weathers from Carolina Elementary School in Hartsville and Elizabeth Moloney from Spaulding Elementary School in Lamar.

The other Outstanding First Year Teacher nominees were:

Cole Davis, Brocking-ton Elementary Magnet School; Matthew Ferguson, Darlington High School; Jessica Lyn Hancock, Darlington Middle School; Brian Howell, Hartsville High School; Scott Lyle Collins, Hartsville Middle School; Kathy Lloyd, Lamar High School; Casie Yarbrough, Pate Elementary School; Richmond McKelvey, St. John’s Elementary School.
