OLANTA — Olanta Town Council had a special meeting Thursday to discuss a letter regarding the town’s streetscape project as well as the former town hall property.

Council members went into executive session to discuss a letter drafted to the South Carolina Department of Transportation to explain the procedure for choosing BP Barber as the town’s engineer for the streetscrape project.

After executive session, councilman Robert Thompson said council members need to read the letter and agree with it.

Some individuals are interested in purchasing the old town hall building to use as an adult day care center. Olanta Mayor Betty Sims said someone needs to appraise the building and determine if it can be sold. Sims said the council will inform the individuals of council’s decision on the matter.
