LOIS CROWLEY

Funeral services for Hattie Lois Powe Crowley, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 17, 2009, at Prospect United Methodist Church. The Rev. Patricia Warden and the Rev. Scott Petry will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. 

Mrs. Crowley, widow of George W. Crowley, died Tuesday, July 14. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Tyson and Hattie Griggs Powe. She was a long-time member of Prospect United Methodist Church and was active in New Market United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Hartsville Nutrition Site, the Disabled American Veterans and the American Cancer Society. 

Surviving are her daughter, Lucinda Stokes of Hartsville; brother, Leslie Powe of Hartsville; a very special grandson, Blake I. Stokes; nieces and spouse, Regina Byrd of Florence, Linda Gail and Roy Montgomery of Birchwood, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth “Lib” Strickland, Violet Powe and Josephine Powe. The family would like to thank McLeod Hospital CCU 5th floor nurses and doctors.

RENETTA YOUNG TANNER HUTCHINSON

CONWAY - Renetta Young Tanner Hutchinson, 81, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Conway Medical Center.

She was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Julius E. and Edith M. Young. Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church. She was twice widowed first by the late Heston J. Tanner then by Marion C. Hutchinson. She was also predeceased by five brothers, John, Clarence, Leonard, George and Julius Young Jr., and two sisters, Lucille Medlin and Bessie Jones.

Surviving are sons, Larry Tanner and wife Barbara of Hartsville and Roger Tanner and wife Ann of Asheville, N.C.; daughter, Chasity H. Bechtler and husband Allen of Garden City Beach; grandson, Hyatt A. Bechtler; brother, Marshall Young and wife Janie of Camden; sister, Elma Hummell of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 17, at Jamestown Baptist Church in Conway. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Florence, at 3:30 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. today at Jamestown Baptist Church.

LOUISE KING

Funeral services for Louise King, 86, will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Charles McLendon will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18, from 11a.m. - 12 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. King, widow of Harvey E. King, died Monday, July 13.  Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie F. and Cora Gatlin King.

Surviving are her brother-in-law, James Beckham of Hartsville; nephews (spouses), Gene (Bette) King of Surfside Beach, Jim (Lydia) King of Florence and Glen Beckham of Hartsville.

CORA STEINHAUSER

Funeral services for Cora Easterling Steinhauser, 86, will be held at 3 p.m. today, July 17, 2009, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Grover Johnson will officiate with entombment in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 

Mrs. Steinhauser, widow of Hilton W. Steinhauser, died Wednesday, July 15. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Kenneth and Viola Morrell Easterling. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school. She was a hairdresser for 40 years and retired from Sara Lee. The family would like to thank the staff of Morningside and Morrell Nursing Home. 

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Steinhauser (Gene) Gibson of Hartsville; sisters, Ola Easterling McLain of Patrick, Curtis Easterling Talbert of Hartsville; grandchildren and spouse, Tonda Anhalt (Tony) Quick of Cheraw, Kymberly Gibson (Russell) Thompson of Charleston, Kelli Gibson (Robert) Merritt of Myrtle Beach, Kara Gibson (Curtis) Guy of Charlotte, N.C. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Steinhauser Antley, and grandson, Eddie Anhalt.

BOBBY FORTUNE

LAMAR - Bobby Fortune of the Cypress community died on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The family will be receiving friends at the home of his mother, Eliza Fortune, at 1200 Sandy Grove Church Road.
