Nichols children enjoy fun days, graduation and more

Pee Dee Community Action Partnership Nichols Head Start celebrated the Week of the Young Child from April 19- 25 with several fun activities, including Parade Day, Kite and Sunglasses Day, Earth Day, Ice Cream Day and Park Day, in Centennial Park of Nichols.

The Pee Dee C.A.P. Nichols Head Start Family thanks Mayor Lawson Battles and Police Chief Robert Bullard for the donation of $200 from the City of Nichols. A heartfelt thanks is also given to Sgt. Levern Williamson for donating the ice cream for the party.

The Head Start sponsored its annual Male Involvement Breakfast Conference on April 30. The theme was “Strengthening the Community, One Male at a Time.” Speakers included were Walter Fleming, executive director of Pee Dee C.A.P.; Kathryn Woods, Head Start Director; Sgt. Willie Ellison, Marion County Sheriff’s Department; Reggie Scott, Department of Health and Environment Control; and Eugene McLellan, Nichols Head Start Teacher (presiding). Attendance included more than 25 participates. The conference is to provide fathers and significant male role models with information regarding the importance of their roles in the lives of today’s youth.

Additional sponsors were Susan Harrison, Williamson-Center Manager; Craig Lightfoot, Family Advocate; and Tammy Robinson, Family Advocate. Also, the students had a graduation celebration with family and friends.
