College elects Hines to Board of Trustees

The Rev. Dr. Mack T. Hines was elected to the Morris College board of trustees during the annual convention of the South Carolina Baptist Education and Missionary Baptist Convention earlier this month in Spartanburg. Hines also served as assistant and secretary of the S.C. Baptist E and M Convention under three presidents.

Morris is Hines’ alma mater, where he received a bachelor of divinity degree. He said he’s excited about his new role as a trustee board member. Morris honored Hines in 1990 with an honorary doctor of divinity degree. Hines also earned a doctor of ministry degree from Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, N.C., in 2005.

He wrote his dissertation on stewardship, which was transcribed to a book. He has pastored for 25 years at St. Paul Baptist Church in Mullins. The church is celebrating his silver anniversary this year. Hines also is moderator of the Pee Dee Baptist Association, which covers 60 churches in five Pee Dee counties.

Showers don’t dampen FoxTrot enthusiasts
Thousands visited the City of Marion this past weekend for its annual FoxTrot festival. Shown are pictures from the city’s recent celebration ... Additional photos are in the Marion Star & Mullins Enterprise, May 27 issue.

From a car show to fun entertainment for children and food galore, the crowds can and went with the day’s rain showers. Main Street was crowded with thousands of festival goers, many of whom enjoyed the parade down Main Street.

Living history reenactors with Marion County’s Hugh Giles Regiment, Britton’s Neck Militia fired musket volleys on Main Street. Here, reenactors with the group, Denley Caughan and Earl Spivey, carry a rope bed into a tent.

Marion High School’s Swamp Fox band participated in the parade, as well.
