Children collect food for needy families
Shiloh United Methodist had its Vacation Bible School from June 22 – 26 and the participating children collected 15 bags of food to give to needy families. About $60 was collected to help the Marion County Council on Aging with its Meals on Wheels program. Each night, approximately 90 kids and adults had fun learning about God through music, grafts and story time, event organizers said.
JROTC cadets are honored
Blue Savannah-Swamp Fox Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution have presented medals to Marion County JROTC cadets.
Two objects of the NSDAR are to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence and to foster patriotic citizenship. In keeping with these objects, annually the Blue Savannah – Swamp Fox Chapter recognizes an outstanding cadet from each of the Junior ROTC units in Marion County with a Bronze ROTC medal.
This year, the award for the Marion High School JROTC unit was presented to a senior, Cadet Captain Cherita S. Williams. The DAR Bronze Medal was presented to Cadet Private Kendra Smalls, Marine Corps JROTC unit of Mullins High School. This unit has a history of outstanding, award-winning drill teams.
Herrington, Floyd named to Board.
Marion Regional Healthcare System has announced the addition of Dianne Herrington and Johnny R. Floyd to its Board of Directors
Herington, a lifelong resident of Marion County, is a 1982 graduate of Francis Marion College and is the Human Resources Manager with Johnson Controls in Florence. She held the same position with Sara Lee for more than 23 years.
Committed to Marion County and active in civic affairs, she is a member of the Marion Rotary Club and serves on the Board of Marion United Way. She was the 2008 President of the Marion Chamber of Commerce and completed two terms on their Board of Directors. In addition, she has served on the Board of Trustees for Francis Marion University for eight years.
Herrington lives in Marion and is the mother of two children, Rob and Sara Brown, both of whom are students at the University of South Carolina.
Floyd, a native of Nichols, is the Marion County Executive of Anderson Brothers Bank. He began his banking career in 1998 as loan officer in the Mullins market and has more than 26 years of experience in banking and commercial lending.
A graduate of Francis Marion University, the South Carolina Bankers School and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University, he is a graduate of Palmetto Leadership, Leadership South Carolina, and the South Carolina Economic Development School.
Floyd serves as Vice President of Wildlife Action and is a member and Past President/Board Member of the Greater Mullins Chamber of Commerce and the Mullins Rotary Club. He is the Past Chairman and Board Member of Marion County Progress and is the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of his service to the community. In 2004, he was named a ‘South Carolina Ambassador for Economic Development.
Marion Regional Healthcare System is a private, nonprofit organization that operates Marion County Medical Center, Mullins Nursing Center, and the new Aynor Medical Center. In addition, it operates a number of physician practices throughout the area.
