Catherine Hammond Cook
Nichols – Catherine Hammond Cook, 82, of Nichols, wife of the late Raymond Cook, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 20, 2009.
She was a daughter of the late W.F. and Estelle McMillan Hammond and was a homemaker and a member of Nichols Baptist Church.
A loving wife and mother, she had a passion for gardening and a great affection for children, with a kind heart to help others, her door was always open and an abundant table was prepared for family and friends. Her life was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was the caring mother of Sherry Grainger, Gloria Kinney (Joe), Zandra Cook, (Brent), Virginia Garris, and Faye Tucker (James). She was the proud grandmother of Ronald Tiller (Tracy), Maria Nobles (Shane), Raymond Tiller (Crystal), Brandy Hufford (Michael), Joey Kinney (Amalia), Kristin Cook, Melanie Cook, Kevin Garris (Tara), Julia Garris, Wil Tucker, and Jessica Tucker.
She was the great-grandmother of Chance Gott, Caitlin Tiller, Hampton Tiller, Savannah Tiller, Slade Nobles, Sierra Nobles, Marley Nobles, Michaela Hufford, Noah Hufford, Jonah Hufford, Hannah Kinney, Matthew Garris, and Laney Garris.
Services were Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. in Meares Funeral home Chapel with the Dr. Richard Moretz and the Rev. Kevin Garris officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Nichols.
Flowers may be given or contributions may be made to Straightway Ministries, Nichols. Meares Funeral Home of Mullins served the family of Mrs. Cook. 

John Barr
Mullins – John D.Barr, 66, died April 6, 2009. Born in Johnsonville to the late Leroy and Cermille Barr, he attended Marion County public schools and was formerly employed with Earl Collins Ford Company and later Bobby Gerald Ford Company.
He was the father of Betty, Nikita and Joe Ann Barr and Tameka Buie and the late John Daniel Barr. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on April 11, 2009 at Ellen Chapel Holiness Church of Mullins, with Pastor Bishop Sarah Mobley officiating.  Interment was at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery.
He is survived by his sisters and brothers McRoy and Tommy Lee Barr, Mattie Brooks, Maggie Gaskins, Lena Barr, Mary Davis and Lilly Mae Kelly.

Alice Owens
Marion – Alice Davis Owens was born June 15, 1925 to the late Willie and Marie Davis. She was the sister of Willie Davis of Latta, Gilbert Davis of Jersey City, N.J., Ella Davis of Marion and Mary McCloud of Mt. Dora, Fla.
On Nov. 17, 1942, she married the late Sherman Owens. She joined Mt Pisgah Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. A funeral was directed there by Jackson & McGill on April 15, 2009, with Pastor Henry McGill Jr. officiating.  Interment was at Devotion Gardens.
She was retired from AVM and is survived by her children: Hyman and Charles Owens, both of Linden, N.J.; William Owens of Oklahoma City; Isaih Owens of Valley Stream, N.Y.; Damien Owens, Eric Reaves and Shirley Reaves, all of Winston-Salem; Louise Moses of Marion, Lora Dean Grase of Rock Hill; Jean Carolyn Workman of Jersey City; Donnie Watts of Florence; and Alice Perry of Charlotte.

Rosa Williams
Marion – Rosa Nelson Williams was born Aug. 11, 1917 to the late Steven and Ophelia Ford Nelson. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Wise Chapel AME Church. She later joined St. John AME Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on April 20, 2009, with Pastor Donnie McBride officiating.  Interment was at Green Lawn Cemetery. 
At St. John, Mother Williams was the mother of the church and a deaconess. She served on the Stewardess Board #3, the Missionary Society, Hospitality Committee, and the Mass Choir. For 51 years, she was a member of the Mt. Moriah Chapter #11 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Mt. Zion Tent #1.
She was the widow of the Leroy Williams Sr., and they were the parents of Earline Williams of Queens, N.Y., Barbara King of Manning and the late Roosevelt and Leroy Williams Jr.
