LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Speak up when government does wrong
Published: November 4, 2009
The following is an email I received from someone in Virginia. I would like to pass it on.
“Something is wrong with America
She once held the Bible as her conscience and guide
But we’ve allowed those who hold nothing to be sacred,
Like Sodom of old, to push morals aside.
Where are the men who once stood for right?
And the women who championed their cause?
We must return to the values of old,
Before this country we love is totally lost.
“We want America back,
From those who have no self-control.
We want America back
This nation is like a runaway train,
Headed down the wrong track.
It’s time for the army of God to arise,
And say we want America back.
“I love America. But I do not love what she has become. Scripture says, ‘Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord.’ And America has forgotten the Godly foundation on which she was built. …
“We want America back,
From those who have no self-control.
We want America back
This nation is like a runaway train,
Headed down the wrong track.
It’s time for the army of God to arise,
And say …
WE WANT AMERICA BACK!”
After reading this, I believe with all my heart that God expects us to stand up and fight for our rights, too. He said He would be with us and guide us.
“If my people, who are called by my Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
This is a verse that should give us comfort for the difficult times that are ahead. But we must be willing to do our part. Each one of us has to say, “What can I do?”
First, we must be willing to fall on our knees and pray and ask for God to guide us. Everything must be according to His will.
Next, we must not be ashamed or afraid to speak to others about what is going on in America. Get involved with our government. Stand up and express yourself when you see something that is wrong.
Then, the opportunity will arise for us to work for the RIGHT Kind of change in America. We cannot do this in our strength, but “Our Strength is in the Lord.”
