Lady Red Foxes head to region

The regular season came to a close on Monday for the Hartsville Lady Red Foxes varsity volleyball team on a low note with a loss to Carolina Forest at home. The final scores were 18-25, 26-24, 20-25 and 19-25.

“We’re still making some of the same mistakes: not calling the ball, transitioning and moving to the ball,” Coach Amber Ortolano said. “We need to focus now on the mental part of the game rather than skill.”
On Oct. 13, the Foxes fell to No. 1 seeded Sumter in a grueling four-game match in Sumter: 13-25, 14-15, 25-14 and 18-25.

The top teams in Region 4A-6 are Sumter (14-6), Carolina Forest (13-5), Hartsville (11-6) and West Florence (5-7). The first playoff game is Tuesday, and, since the Red Foxes are the No. 3 seed, they won’t be playing at home again unless they make it past the third round.

“We are starting a new lifeline now going into playoffs. If we keep winning, we will stay a live longer, so it’s up to the girls to see how long they want this season to last,” Ortolano said. “I know we have it in us to go all the way, so they just need to come together and stay together throughout the playoffs.”

Playoff games will be held Tuesday, Thursday, Nov. 3 and Nov. 5. The state championship will be held 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at White Knoll.
