Charlene Lowry, on behalf of Rep. James Clyburn, recognizes Frank Jones.
The U.S. Congress recognized Frank Jones at the Marion County industry appreciation luncheon on Nov. 17.
Jones’ congressional record will be added to the Library of Congress.
“He has dedicated his life to helping his community and it is a much better place because of his tremendous contributions. I wish Frank well in retirement, and know he will remain an active part of the Marion County community,” the Congressional Record reads.
“I could not have been this type of person without other people. Its not what I did alone, it is the bonding of the relationships with the industry and Marion County. The support they gave me in my role allowed me to reach the successes I have reached,” Jones said.
Jones recently retired as Executive Director of the Marion County Economic Commission after 14 years.
Jones graduated from Mullins High School; shortly after graduation Jones enlisted in the Army National Guard. After 40 years of service, Jones retired from the Army National Guard when he was the Brigadier General, commanding the 33rd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division.
Jones held many other roles in the community including President of Davis National Bank of Mullins, serving on the Mullins City Council, Mayor pro tem, and a Deacon at Mullins First Baptist Church.
“Frank did a tremendous job attracting diverse smaller industries to the county, which helps protect against the devastation the county suffered when its two previous economic engines collapsed,” the Congressional Record reads.
“Am I proud? Yes. Do I feel deserving? No. I cannot accept this like it is something that I did. It’s because of the association, the relationships, the fellowships and support that we had as a team. Nobody stands alone and is successful,” Jones said.
