Holiday art contest winner selected
DARLINGTON - Hagen Collins, a senior at Lamar High School, was chosen as the winner of Darlington County School District’s annual Holiday Card Art Contest. Collins’ picture will be featured on the cover of the district’s holiday card.
This year the contest was held among the high school students of the school district. Each of the six schools serving high school students submitted artwork for the contest. The six school winners will all receive a certificate of recognition from the Darlington County Board of Education.
Winners were Hagen Collins for Lamar High School, Shane McNeil for Darlington County Intervention School, Janika Ross for Hartsville High School, Edwin Torres for Darlington County Institute of Technology, Amanda Kate VanSickle for Mayo High School for Math, Science & Technology and Spencer Williamson for Darlington High School.
As overall district winner, Collins will receive a certificate of accomplishment, $100 savings bond and a packet of the cards made from her artwork for her family. Her art teacher, Sean Cockrell, will receive $100 for art supplies for his school.
Each year the art contest rotates between school levels. Next year the art contest will be held for grades kindergarten through second grade.
