Hartsville swim team competes in first meet

The Hartsville High School swim team competed in its first meet Sept. 8 at the Sumter YMCA. At least three swimmers beat their previous best times.

“They have set their sights high,” said Coach Bonnie Bosworth. “And this was only our first contest.”

In the girls’ 200-yard medley relay, Hartsville completed the relay in a time of 2:17.97. Team members Olivia and Julia Crabtree, Madison Hassler and Inicia Harris were only 0.31 seconds away from state meet qualifying consideration time for this event

In the girls’ 200-yard free relay, the same swimmers finished in a time of 2:03.78, 0.13 seconds away from qualifying.

Tyler Jackson and Olivia Crabtree both qualified for state meet via consideration times in 100-yard butterfly. Jackson had a time of 1:05.36 and Olivia Crabtree had a time of 1:12.41, 3 seconds off her previous best time.

Julia Crabtree qualified for state meet via consideration times in both the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:44.04, 6 seconds off her previous best time, and in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:24.91.

Madison Hassler completed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:26.92, 4 seconds off her previous best. Hassler also took 4 seconds off her best 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:37.84.

Inicia Harris took more than 5 seconds off her 50-yard free swim with a time of 32.05. She also took 14 seconds off her 100-yard free with a time of 1:20.44.

The next swim meet will be 6 p.m. today at Hartsville YMCA against South Florence, West Florence, Wilson, Sumter and the Governor’s School.
