Mary Coward and her husband, Dr. Paul Coward, began a scholarship fund for SGM (ret.) Clinton Lyles, Jr., of the South Carolina Army National Guard who died suddenly on Nov. 4, 2006. The Cowards are continuing to honor this soldier who served at the Hartsville Post for 40 years. He was known by “Blue” by many of his guardsmen. He was also known for cooking chicken bog for many civic organizations and his church, St. Luke Methodist and its mission work.

Donations can be made to NGASC, 1 National Guard Road, Stop 36, Columbia, SC 29201. Anyone who wishes to donate may also call (800) 822-3235. Donations are tax-deductable.
