County Board appoints trustees
Marion County Board of Education members interviewed as many as nine applicants seeking appointment to the three Local Board of Trustees.
Dr. Paul DeMarco, James Smith, Alice B. Dudley, and Howard D. Blakeney are currently serving Marion School District One until June 30. Board members received applications from Milton J. Kramer, Lucas Atkinson, Kimberly Rose Woodberry, Mamie Hannah Hendley, David A. Edwards II., Latrell N. Thomas and Andrea D Favor.
Marion School District 2 board members Angela Page and Shawn Harrelson reapplied for the position as the MSD2 needed two additional members to replace vacated seats.
Renee Odom, Judith Pace, Rennette Pee, Mamie Hannah Hendley, Lee Walter Jenkins, Dallas Platt, Charles E. White, Mary Miles and Linda O. Neal all applied.
Marion School District 7 board chairman McKeiver Williamson, Robert A. Wallace Jr., Billy Richardson and James P. Gause all applied for reappointment.
Kenneth Brunson, Jennifer Rose Click, Rudolph Richardson, Mamie Hannah Hendley and Charles J. Dozier were the new applicants.
After a closed door session, County Board members voted to remove DeMarco and appoint Favor as a new board of trustee for MSD1.
Odom and Pee were appointed by the board to serve on the MSD2 board of trustees along with Page and Harrelson.
Former MSD 7 board member Charles J. Dozier joins Williamson, Wallace, Richardson and Gause after a being appointed by the board.
In other business, board members approved second reading of the MSD 1 and MSD 7 budgets for the 2009-10 fiscal year. During a meeting on June 3, the board member voted against the MSD2 budget proposal citing concerns with salary figures, but those matters were addressed after revisions were made by the local board. The districts proposed budget received first reading approval before this past week’s meeting adjourned.
