Coker College Music Presents Faculty Recital
Coker College Music presents a faculty recital by soprano Serena Hill and pianist Dr. Jun Matsuo at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. They will perform Benjamin Britten’s “Les Illuminations, Opus 18,” inspired by poet Arthur Rimbaud, and Aaron Copland’s “Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson.”
Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Hill, an adjunct faculty member at Coker College, teaches applied voice and diction. An award winning vocal artist, Hill was a Regional Finalist in the 2008 National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards. In 2006, she was named Artist of the Year by FBN Productions (Opera for Kids). She was also a 2003 finalist in the Southeast Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Hill holds a Master of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Jun Matsuo is a visiting assistant professor of music at Coker College teaching piano performance and music theory. A versatile solo and collaborative performer, Matsuo has appeared as a guest pianist in New York, Maine, and Florida. Her overseas activities include giving a recital and lecture at the Universiti Sains Malaysia and performing at the French Piano Institute in Paris. Matsuo holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano pedagogy from the University of South Carolina.
