Brittons’ Neck Elementary Principal Tammy Martin; Denley Caughman, of Marion, a Revolutionary War era reenactor; and Superintendent Everette Dean are shown above. Caughman was out in the county helping to distribute two books on the Revolutionary War hero Gen. Francis Marion. The books were presented to Marion County third graders recently for use in class, just before this Friday’s Gen. Francis Marion Memorial Day.

Third graders in the state study South Carolina history. On Friday the county will have its first Gen. Francis Marion Memorial Day celebration on the square in Marion at the Francis Marion momument. The remembrance event and wreath laying, which begins at 9 a.m., is free and open to the public.
