21 arrested on drug charges

Darlington County’s new Multi-jurisdictional Task Force and other law enforcement officers arrested 21 people Tuesday on an array of drug charges.

Officers from the task force, the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, S.C. Probation and Parole and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources began making arrests at abut 5 a.m. Tuesday and continued throughout the day, according to a news release from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrests stemmed from an investigation that has been under way for three months, according to the release.

Charges filed against the individuals arrested in Tuesday’s roundup ranged from distribution of crack cocaine to simple possession of marijuana, according to the release.

All of the suspects where taken to the Darlington County Deten-tion Center and were awaiting bond hearings Wednesday morning.

“We formed this multi-jurisdictional task force, and we are already seeing results from the team work from all the agencies that came together,” said Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd. “I also want to thank the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and other agencies for the help they gave us in this operation. Twenty-one drug offenders in jail is only the start for bigger things to come.”

The Darlington County Multi-jurisdictional Task Force is made up of Darlington County Sheriff’s office, Darlington, Hartsville, Lamar and Society Hill police departments and the Fourth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Those arrested in Tues-day’s roundup include:

• Rex A. Byrd, 48, 434 Jasper Ave., Hartsville, distribution of crack cocaine.

• Amberly Hunnicutt, 22, 732 Pinestraw St. Hartsville, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine (two counts).

• Charlene Wallace, 23, 1314 Ebenezer Road Darlington, distribution of marijuana.

• Kenneth F. Newsome Jr., 29, 1201 Lakeview Blvd., Hartsville, distribution of crack cocaine.

• Tommy Lee Jackson, 41, 834 Whiterail Drive, Florence, distribution of crack cocaine/ distribution of crack within proximity of school.

• Russell W. Fountain, 40, 1044 N. Rolling Road, Hartsville, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

• Sharon Delores Mc-Kenzie, 47, 732 Pinestraw St., Hartsville, distribution of crack cocaine (two counts)/conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine (two counts).

• Dion Alston, 27, 433 Lawson Rd., Darlington, distribution of crack cocaine (two counts)/possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine/ simple possession of marijuana.

• Deshawn Goins, 18, 433 Lawson Rd., Darling-ton, simple possession of marijuana.

• Jack Newsome, 30, 1121 Vivian Ln., Florence, distribution of schedule III controlled substance.

• Russell Moses, 20, 2545 Clement St., Lydia, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

• Toni Boone, 20, 718 Butler St., Hartsville, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

• Alvin Pendergrass, 32, 817 B St., Hartsville, distribution of crack cocaine.

• James Jacobs, 25, 212 F. Ave., Darlington, distribution of crack cocaine.

• Desmond Samuel, 20, 1575 Winding Ridge Rd., Hartsville, distribution of crack cocaine (two counts).

• Garrett Tucker, 22, 7868 Highway 52 South, Society Hill, possession of crack cocaine.

• Tara Coogler, 33, 2224 B Second Loop Rd., Florence, distribution of marijuana.

• Ronald Flynn, 44, 724 Third St., Darlington, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine (three counts).

• Steve Rogers, 44, 336 Philadelphia St., Harts-ville, distribution of crack cocaine.

• Yvette Brown, 45, 111 Reid St., Darlington, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

• Marcus Carter, 27, 308 Ave. F Darlington, conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine/simple possession of marijuana.
