Former governor, businessman to receive honorary degrees
FLORENCE ? A former governor and Florence businessman will be awarded honorary degrees from Francis Marion University during commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Smith University Center gymnasium. Selected to receive honorary doctoral degrees are Emerson Gower Jr. of Florence and former Gov. James ?Jim? Hodges of Columbia.

Dillon County approves school bond
DILLON ? Dillon County?s $60 million bond referendum that would help Dillon School Districts 1, 2 and 3 improve facilities, won by at least 70 percent of the votes, according to unofficial poll results Tuesday night.

County Board of Education members approve technical education center’s plan to look ahead
"I could not find a long range plan for this school, and I think that's critical," Marion County Technical Education Center Director Paul Crandall said this past week. Crandall came on board as the center's director in 2001.
