Socastee High School Air Force JROTC gets big honor
The Socastee High School Air Force JROTC Unit #821 has earned the Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award for the seventh consecutive year.
According to a press release from Horry County Schoos, the unit earned this honor for 2008-2009 for having performed above and beyond normal expectations and for their outstanding service to their school and community.
The JROTC program strives to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills, promote community service, and teach the fundamentals of air and space. Nationally, there are 879 units and more than 100,000 cadets.
The SHS Air Force JROTC Unit is under the direction of Colonel Andy Kiracofe, Senior Instructor.
