Caroline Taylor Jefferies and Samuel James Nordlund, both of Evanston, Ill., were united in marriage on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. William R. West officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony. A reception was held at Prestwood Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Steven Laurence Schweizer of Hartsville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Carl Elmore, Jr. of Hartsville, great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Griffin Taylor. She is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in violin performance. She also earned a Master of Music degree in violin pedagogy and performance from Northwestern University. She is on the faculty of the Music Academy of Northwestern University and is a free-lance performer in the Chicago area.

The bridegroom is the son of Drs. Moya Lao and Thomas Michael Nordlund of Birmingham, Ala. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Mou-Chi Lao of Happy Valley, Hong Kong, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Adolph Nordlund of Gresham, Ore. The bridegroom is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in cello performance. He is also a graduate of Northwestern University with a Master of Music degree in cello performance. Mr. Nordlund is the assistant director of performance activities at Nichols Concert Hall of the Music Institute of Chicago. He also performs with the Northwest Indiana Symphony and the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

The bride was escorted by her father and presented in marriage by her family. She wore a formal gown of ivory silk taffeta. The strapless gown was designed with rouching throughout the bodice, which fell into an a-line skirt. The bodice was accented with a bow and embellished with a pearl and silver brooch. A low v-back was enhanced with two bustles cascading the back of the chapel train. The bride wore a chapel-length veil accented by scalloped alencon lace.

The music for the wedding was performed by Rajli Bicolli, cello; Matthew Craig Jones, timpani; Dr. Randolph DeYo Love, trumpet; Tony Darrin Roebuck, trumpet and Mrs. Janet Bowen Marks, organ.

Serving as crucifer for the service was Andrew Ellis Blum of Fort Mill. His sister, Catherine Cordell Blum, was acolyte.

The bride’s matron of honor was Mrs. Anna Stuckey Wheeler of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Bridesmaids were Carrie Anne Dunton of Atlanta, Ga.; and sisters of the groom, Annika Elise Nordlund of Los Angeles, Calif., and Sarah Elizabeth Nordlund of Birmingham, Ala.
The flower girl was Natalie Sue Glaser, violin student of the bride of Evanston, Ill.

The bridal attendants wore two-piece dresses of sable tissue taffeta. The strapless top was accented with rouching around the waist and embellished with a tied square knot in the back, which fell over a floor-length a-line skirt. The bridal attendants carried hand-tied bouquets of yellow calla lilies wrapped with sheer ribbon.

The groom’s father, Dr. Thomas Michael Nordlund, served as best man.

Groomsmen were Loren Stuart Jefferies, brother of the bride of Atlanta, Ga.; Dr. Hakeem Olayiwola Lawal, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Jared Michael Scott of Chicago, Ill.
Serving as ushers were Rajli Bicolli of Philadelphia, Pa.; Steven Michael Dragun of Evanston, Ill., and Brian Patrick Hoffman, Paul Jeffrey Roberts and Robert Isaac Sinnett, all of Chicago, Ill.

After a honeymoon trip Kauai, the couple will reside in Evanston.

Mrs. Libby Bannister, Mrs. Jewell Clark, Mrs. Bonnie Hamilton and Mrs. Laura Newman, along with their daughters, Mrs. Laura Bannister King, Jennifer Clark, Blair Baker Hamilton and Mrs. Sarah Newman Milbee, hosted a bridal shower luncheon at the Bannister home on March 22.

A miscellaneous drop-in bridal shower was hosted by Mrs. Debbie Andrews, Mrs. Angelyn Bateman, Mrs. Elaine Nichols, Mrs. Jackie Perry and Dr. Mary Thomas on March 30 at the Thomas home in Lydia.

The St. Luke Chancel Choir hosted a miscellaneous shower in the bride’s honor on Aug. 10 in the parlor of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

On Aug. 19, Mrs. Sarah Timmons honored the bride-elect with a wine and cheese party at her home.

The bride and her family were honored with a luncheon given by Dr. Susan Reynolds at her home on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Drs. Moya Lao and Thomas Michael Nordlund, parents of the groom, hosted the rehearsal dinner in the family life building at First Baptist Church on the eve of the wedding.
A bridal luncheon was held on Nov. 8 at Saffron. The hostesses were Mrs. Carol Bryant, Carrie Dunton, Mrs. Carla Dunton, Mrs. Mildred Elmore and Mrs. Anna Wheeler.

On Nov. 8, Mrs. Betty Coward, Mrs. Cindy Dempsey, Mrs. Jackie Floyd, Mrs. Becky Flowers, Mrs. Jean Fowler, Mrs. Anna Hill and Mrs. Vicki Norment hosted the groomsmen’s brunch at Bizzell’s.
