Dancin’ On Main wins big at Myrtle Beach competition

What better way for Dancin’ On Main’s dance companies, Main Attraction and Coming Attraction, to end this dance year than by all companies competing at Showstopper and all bringing home top awards?

The 2009 Showstopper Regional Competition, recognized as America’s Greatest Dance competition, was held in Myrtle Beach from May 8 to 10 with dance members from 66 studios competing.

Competitions began May 8, and Main Attraction ended the night with the following awards:

  • Gold 1st for Petite Jazz and Gold 1st for Tap, with a fifth place overall
  • Gold 1st for Junior Lyrical, Gold 1st for Junior Jazz and Platinum for Junior Tap, with a fourth place overall
  • Gold 1st for Senior Jazz and Gold 1st for Senior Tap
  • Platinum for Elite Jazz, with a fourth place overall

Coming Attraction, a team of dancers preparing to possibly become Main Attraction members, started the day off May 9 with their first competition of the year. They won a Gold 1st in Jazz, a Gold 1st in Tap and 10th place overall.

Continuing Saturday afternoon were the solo, duet and trio categories, and awards received were:

  • Mary Logan Brown, Gold 1st in Open Category and fifth place overall
  • Anna Caison Boyd, Gold 1st in Jazz and sixth place overall
  • Emily Suman, Gold 1st in Tap
  • Krystal Miles, Gold 1st in Tap
  • Kaycee Weaver, Platinum in Tap, Double Platinum in Jazz and first place overall in the senior category
  • Angela Miles, Platinum in Tap and second place overall
  • Duet, Kaycee Weaver and Kelley Moore, Platinum in Tap and fifth place overall

Concluding the weekend for Dancin’ On Main was the All Boys Class receiving a Gold 1st for their Jazz routine, “Soul Man.”

Congratulations also to the instructors, Betty Frances Stone, Candace Lewis, Karl Singletary and Paige Strickland, for instilling in these young dancers not only a love of dancing but also teaching them the many attributes needed to be successful in life.
