0611 Wedding: Atkins, Wofford

Catherine Georgeanne Atkins of Hartsville and Joshua David Wofford of Duncan were united in marriage on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Hartsville. Nathan Cooper Cline, brother-in-law of the bride, and Caleb Jonathan Wofford, brother of the groom, officiated at the 4 p.m., double-ring ceremony. A reception followed at the Hartsville Country Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Tomlinson Atkins Sr. of Hartsville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Kenneth Winburn, Mrs. Elizabeth Tomlinson Atkins and Charles William Atkins, all of Hartsville. She graduated from Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology in 2004. She is a 2008 magna cum laude graduate from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications studies and minors in journalism and sociology. She is a staffing specialist for O’Neal Inc. in Greenville.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Dean Wofford of Duncan. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Banks and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Prince Wofford, all of Spartanburg. He graduated from Southside Christian School in Greenville in 2004. He is a 2008 graduate from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. He will be working in the Professional Development Program at Sealed Air Cryovac in Duncan.
Musicians for the wedding were Mrs. Kim Roberts, pianist, Erin Knight, harpist and Kelli Price, trumpet. Mrs. Shannon Welch Privette and Matthew David Privette were soloists. Musical selections included “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Trumpet Voluntary,” “Be Still and Know,” “You Raise Me Up” and “How Deep the Father’s Love.”
Escorted in marriage by her father, and given in marriage by her father and mother, the bride wore a designer gown by San Patrick. The white all over lace gown had a sweetheart neckline and was embroidered with white tulle applications and was highlighted throughout with crystals. The back bodice was adorned with a row of covered buttons while the front bodice featured a soft drape to the side hip and flowed gently to a modified a-line skirt. Her waltz-length veil was white tulle, accented with crystals and pearls. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of white, akito roses accented with stephanotis and fashioned with bridal white sheer ribbon. Attached to her bouquet was a Bible given to her at her birth and a handkerchief given to her by her grandmother.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Elizabeth Atkins Cline, sister of the bride, of New Orleans.
Bridesmaids were Noelle Newsome Radcliffe of Hartsville, Landon Alyse Turner of Hartsville, Caye Marie Burry of Hartsville, Margaret Pollard Smart of Doswell, Va., Brittany Suzanne Fuller of Greenville, Elizabeth Graham Segars of Hartsville, Mrs. Kathryn Jones Ferguson of Columbia, and Mrs. Melanie Winburn Gibson, cousin of the bride, of Conway.
Bridesmaids wore formal a-line strapless satin dresses in cobalt blue. The dresses were draped at the waist and featured a beaded neckline. The attendants carried hand-tied bouquets of blue hydrangeas accented with pink, white and yellow summer flowers.
Flower girls were Caitlyn Davis Conner and Caroline Elizabeth Conner.
The bridegroom’s father, George Dean Wofford, was best man.
Groomsmen were George Tomlinson Atkins Jr., brother of the bride, of Hartsville; Benjamin Joseph Wofford, brother of the groom, of Duncan; Christopher Charles Isham of Simpsonville; Brian Parker Skroback of Columbia; Stephen Kane Balleh of Doswell, Va.; James Maxwell Ferguson of Columbia; Sean Anthony Mascaro of Simpson-ville and Timothy Christopher Gadja of Simponsville.
Ushers were Jason Daniel Murdock of Hartsville, Brandon Alexander Long of Mauldin, Brandon Ray Morris of Hartsville, Steven Allen Winburn, cousin of the bride, of Columbia; Lance Corporal Roger Keith Winburn, cousin of the bride, of San Diego, Calif.; and Allen Kenneth Winburn, cousin of the bride, of Hartsville.
The ring bearer was Jacob Robert Braddock, cousin of the bride, of Columbia. Program attendants were Kenneth Cecil Braddock and Charles William Braddock, cousins of the bride, of Columbia.
Greeters at the church were Mr. and Mrs. John Steele Nichols Jr., Dr. and Mrs. Lester Lee Reynolds, and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Wilson Coward Jr. Greeters at the reception were the Honorable and Mrs. Jamie Lee Murdock, Dr. Ronald Wayne Radcliffe and Mrs. Brenda Newsome, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Shelley Jr. and Dr. Kenneth Christopher and Dr. Alison Yarborough Evans.
After a honeymoon to Cancun, the couple will live in Taylors.

Dr. Alison Evans and Dr. Kenneth Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hancock, and Mrs. Brenda Newsome and Dr. Wayne Radcliffe, hosted an engagement party honoring the bride and bridegroom at the home of the Evans’ on Nov. 3, 2007.
A Christmas dinner and shower was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Dick Coker, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Dawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnsen on Dec. 21, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnsen.
On Feb. 2, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hays, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hays, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. John Nichols, and Dr. and Mrs. Lester Reynolds hosted a bar-b-que and room-to-room shower honoring the bride and groom at the Coker College boat house.
A drop-in ABC shower honoring the bride was given on March 15, in the parlor of the First Baptist Church. Hostesses were Mrs. Donna Barrett, Mrs. Stephanie Moore and Mrs. Pat Shelley.
The couple enjoyed a tool and garden shower at the New Life Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Spartanburg on April 26. This was hosted by Terry Bagwell, a friend of the groom’s family.
On Saturday, May 3, Mrs. Terrie Reames and Mrs. Denise Turner hosted a monogram shower and brunch for the bride at the Midnight Rooster.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Coward, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Dempsey, Mr. and Mrs. Al Fink and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thompson hosted a Trinidad mission trip reunion for the couple. A buffet was served at the First Baptist Church Family Life dining room.
Mr. and Mrs. George Wofford, parents of the groom, hosted a Hawaiian luau at the Coker College boat house for the rehearsal party on the eve of the wedding.
A bridal breakfast was held on June 7, at the First Baptist Church Family Life dining room. Hostesses were Mrs. Elizabeth Atkins, grandmother of the bride, Mrs. Virginia Atkins, Mrs. Sara Braddock, aunts of the bride, Mrs. Carolyn Winburn, great-aunt of the bride and Mrs. Doris Winburn, grandmother of the bride.
George Atkins Sr., father of the bride, George Atkins Jr., brother of the bride, George Wofford, father of the groom, Benjamin Wofford and Caleb Wofford, brothers of the groom, hosted a groom’s breakfast at Saffron on the morning of the wedding.
