Jared the SUBWAY guy makes a stop in the Eastern CarolinasJared Fogle was a 425-pound student at Indiana University in March 1998 when he noticed a sign at the SUBWAY® restaurant near his apartment promoting the chain’s “7 under 6” menu - seven submarine sandwiches with six grams of fat or less.
According to a press release, Jared, who had tried other diets, decided to try a calorie-reducing diet of low-fat SUBWAY® sandwiches.
Jared ate a 6-inch turkey (no oil, mayo or cheese) for lunch and a 12-inch veggie sub for dinner. He ate the same sandwiches every day for just about a year.
Combined with an exercise regiment of mainly walking, Jared was able to drop his weight to a remarkable 190 pounds.*
Jared appeared in his first national television commercial for SUBWAY® restaurants in January 2000. Today, Jared still eats at SUBWAY®, but he does eat other foods as well. He watches his calories, limits his fat intake and walks wherever he can.
