Suicides in the army will hit a grim new high this year according to a top military official.

As of Monday, 140 active duty soldiers were believed to have committed suicide.

With still more than a month left in 2009 - that already matches last year’s record.

But the pace of such incidents has slowed in recent months which could mean the Army is starting to make progress in preventing them.
