FLORENCE AND MURRELLS INLET - Creek Ratz Restaurant (Florence and Murrells Inlet) is holding an Oyster Festival to benefit the March of Dimes on Saturday, November 14 from 1 pm to 5 pm.

According to a news release from th March of Dimes, bands lined up for the Oyster Festival at the Florence location are Warren Stone & Midway Blue, Elbow Greezy and Doby & Brian from Crow Jayne. The highlight of the day will be a dunking booth, featuring Sheriff Kenney Boone and Twelfth Circuit Solicitor E.L. (Ed) Clements, III.

As part of Prematurity Awareness Month, Creek Ratz is donating a portion of the day’s sales to the March of Dimes, which funds research into the causes and preventions or premature birth. Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year including 173 babies in South Carolina in an average week. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have lifelong disabilities.

In 2009 the South Carolina March of Dimes has invested 1.5 million dollars in program services, including research grants and local community services. Through these grants, the March of Dimes is seeking ways to prevent birth defects and infant death, reduce South Carolina’s increasing premature birth rate, increase access to prenatal care and educate men and women about having healthy babies.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health.  With chapters nationwide the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies. For the latest resources and information, visit marchofdimes.com or nacersano.org.
