“Take a hefty portion of Southern charm, add a dash of country livin’, a pinch of urban style, wash it all down with a sweet, fresh sound, and you have Colt Ford.”
That’s how the bio begins on Colt Ford’s Web site to describe this country music artist who mixes hip hop, rock, rhythm and blues with country.
Ford will be opening for Jason Aldean at Florence Civic Center on Nov. 21.
Like Aldean, Ford grew up in a small Georgia town doing what country boys do: hunt, fish, listen to country music. He gravitated away from the Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers types, however, and found a niche within hip hop when he wrote his first rap song in high school. That writing came easy to him, and he began working with acclaimed producer Jermaine Dupri and other developing hip-hop artists.
Ford, however, is living proof you can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy. His music is all about having a good time, living the country life, admiring pretty women and drinking cold beer.
“He’s unlike anything else in country right now,” Aldean said about Ford. “He does this country boy rap thing that’s really fun, and he puts on a good show.”
