GSSM senior earns state’s only perfect ACT score

Millie Griffin, a senior at the S.C. Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, has achieved a perfect score of 36 on the ACT exam. Griffin is the only S.C. student who achieved a perfect score in September’s test period.

GUEST EDITORIAL: The bombs of war also explode at home

As the nation was stunned by the horrific tragedies that left 13 dead and 30 wounded on Fort Hood last week, Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) and Gold Star Families Speak Out (GSFSO) would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to our fellow military families and those who love them. Upon first hearing about such attacks, our stress as military families intensifies, and we experience a range of emotions: the panic that it is our loved one who has been attacked, the guilty relief if our loved one escaped the bullet this time, the sorrow for those of us who suffer and face the incalculable loss of losing forever those we nurture and love.

Estill put up more of a fight than the final score would indicate, but the Lamar Silver Foxes (10-1) still rolled through the first round of the playoffs at home Friday night, winning 40-6 to set up a second round home contest versus Allendale-Fairfax. Allendale-Fairfax overwhelmed Baptist Hill (50-6) and will now face Lamar at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night in Lamar.

Darlington County School Board approves new high school schedule

The Darlington County School Board unanimously approved a new seven-period schedule for district high schools for 2010-11 during the monthly board meeting in Darlington.
