Hartsville murder suspect captured, other arrests made
Agents from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Taskforce and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division captured a Hartsville murder suspect at a Greyhound Bus Station in Pittsburgh, Penn., Thursday night, according to Hartsville Police Chief Tim Kemp.
Florence-Darlington Technical College awarded grant
Florence-Darlington Technical College based Next Generation Tech Stars program was recently awarded a $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S-STEM) program.
Sonoco seeks local support on taxation issue
Sonoco on Monday asked Darlington County Council and the governing councils of the county’s four municipalities to support its efforts to enact a change in a state law that will allow its headquarters office building in Hartsville to be taxed at the state’s commercial rate of 6 percent rather than at the industrial rate of 10.5 percent.

Artisans of the South Carolina Cotton Trail exhibit opens
The Artisans of the South Carolina Cotton Trail will have their first public event Thursday at the Black Creek Arts Center on College Avenue. The 24 juried artisans will be displaying their works in a juried show for the months of October and November. The opening reception for the show will be Oct. 2, from 5:30-7 p.m
