Ovis Hill Farm Festival this weekend
Ovis Hill Farm near Timmonsville and Clemson Extension in Darlington County are teaming up for a full two days of family fun and educational activities this weekend. Part of Darlington County’s Farm-City Week celebration, this event provides the opportunity for families and children to learn that “The Farm is where Food is Born.“
Cotton Harvest Bluegrass Festival begins Friday
The second annual Cotton Harvest Bluegrass Festival in downtown Hartsville begins Friday night, Oct. 24, and continues throughout the weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
District falls short on federal standards despite higher graduation rate

Officials give updates on state of cities, county
Members of the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce got an update Thursday on the state of Darlington County and the state of the cities of Darlington, Hartsville and Lamar.
Council approves fee agreement
Darlington County Council gave final approval Monday to an ordinance for a fee in lieu of taxes (FILOT) agreement with NSLC, Darlington Inc.

Coker to host 2009 Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament
After a year hiatus, the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament will once again return to Hartsville and Coker College in 2009. The Conference Carolinas athletic directors accepted Coker College’s bid for the 2009 conference softball tournament to be held at Byerly Park, April 16-19.
Foxes ready for oyster roast
Hartsville High School will hold its annual Red Fox Oyster Roast and Shrimp Fest at J. Michael’s Restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 3 p.m.
Silver Foxes hold off Hanna-Pamplico
The Lamar Silver Foxes football team improved their record to 7-1 on the season on Friday night by defeating Hanna-Pamplico by a score of 14-12.
Tigers outlast Foxes in physical game
The Hartsville High varsity football team visited Conway for the first time since defeating the Tigers in the state playoffs last year; however, they lost a very physical game by a score of 28-21.
Police searching for assault, kidnapping suspect
The Hartsville Police Department is asking for assistance locating a man they say assaulted one person and kidnapped another at knifepoint, according to a release from the department.

This October, Darlington County Community Action Agency and others like it from across the country are joining together to celebrate Head Start’s 43rd birthday during Head Start Awareness Month and to strengthen the nation’s awareness of the Head Start program.

Lady Saints complete season sweep of Coker
The Limestone Saints completed their season sweep of the Coker Cobras with a 3-0 win in Conference Carolinas volleyball on Wednesday night. The win improves the Lady Saints to 12-10 on the year, and 9-3 in the conference, while Coker falls to 2-19 overall, and 0-12 in the conference.
Mount Olive Stings Coker 7-0
Lyndsay Brennan tallied two goals and three assists and Marie Richters scored a hat trick as the Trojans win 7-0 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon at Amon Field. Alyecia Higgins and Melissa Shepherd both had two assists and Nia Celata had one too.
Coker Ties Mount Olive 1-1
Sean Keener scored the only goal for the Trojans on assists from Chris McClaugherty and Anthony Payne as the Trojans took Coker into two overtimes to finish with a tie in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer Wednesday night at Amon Field. This is the second tie in a row for the Trojans this season.
