The Miss Darlington Scholarship Pageant committee presents “To Darlington with Love” this Saturday at the St. John’s Elementary School Auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

LETTER: Voter concerned about council election outcome
I am writing this letter because I am very disappointed with the recent elections. I live in City Council District 1 and had not voted in the last two council elections because there was no one running against our current council member.

All State, Rabon Agency donate 1,500 Fire Safety coloring books
All State and the Rabon Agency donated 1,500 Fire Safety coloring books to the Hartsville Fire Department to be distributed in Hartsville area elementary schools. The Rabon Agency also donated another 2,500 of the coloring books to the Darlington County Fire District.

What is Influenza?
Influenza is not the stomach flu or the common cold that we all get. It is a serious viral infection that occurs in epidemics and contributes to the death of about 20,000 people each year in this country. The “1918 flu” and “swine flu” were influenza.

The Darlington County Humane Society shelter, (843) 398-4402, is located off Highway 151, ½ mile west of Darlington Raceway. Turn beside the water tower. Shelter hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The shelter is closed Wednesday and Sunday.

Outstanding Miss Pageant raises money for children’s hospital
South Carolina’s Outstanding Miss Pageant was held on Oct. 31 in Hartsville. This project raised more than $2,000 for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.
First Baptist Missions Bazaar marks 25th year
For 25 years, First Baptist Church in Hartsville has held a Missions Bazaar the first weekend in December to raise money for foreign missions. This year’s bazaar is Dec. 5 beginning at 8 a.m. in the Family Life Center at First Baptist on East Home Avenue.

Reynolds wins mayor’s post
Randy Reynolds defeated Jackie L. Thomas, with 192 votes to Thomas’ 141, for the Lamar mayor’s post. Voters in Lamar returned to the polls Tuesday to settle a runoff election.

Darlington County development board briefed on industrial site certification
Alliance Consulting Engineers representatives presented the Darlington County Economic Development Partnership Board with a slideshow on industrial site certification on Wednesday at the Hartsville Country Club during the board’s monthly meeting.
Frederick E. Ducey, III, will serve as Area 5 Director for USDA Rural Development
USDA Rural Development State Director Vernita F. Dore today announced that Frederick E. Ducey, III, will serve as Area 5 Director for USDA Rural Development. Area 5 serves the following eight counties: York, Chester, Lancaster, Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington and Richland.
EDITORIAL: Equal in the eyes of the law
On Friday, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the U.S. government will pursue a prosecution in federal court against five detainees who are currently charged in military commissions with conspiring to commit the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
