Seegars Fence Co. Inc., based in Goldsboro, N.C., and founded by McBee native, the late Neal Seegars, recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Seegars attended N.C. State University and after graduation in 1941, he was drafted to serve in the military in World War II. In 1946, he was moved to Goldsboro, N.C., as an assistant county agricultural extension agent. He then began what Seegars Fence Co. originated as, Farmer’s Supply Co., in 1949 when fence sales and installation were only a small portion of the family business.

By 1968, the company had evolved to a hardware store and Seegars sold the downtown store location to concentrate on selling fences and moved the business to another Goldsboro site. In January 1974, his son, Wes, came to work for his father and today continues as the company’s president and CEO.

Wes Seegars’ sons, daughter and son-in-law also are with the company. Ben Seegars serves as vice president and chief operating officer and John Seegars serves as a vice president. Sallie Seegars Batchelor and her husband, Bobby Batchelor, own and manage Seegars Fence Co. Inc. of Greensboro, N.C.

Seegars Fence Co.’s Florence office at 1518 Douglas St. began operations in May 2008. The company’s Web site is http://www.seegarsfence.com.
