FLORENCE — Though the economy is not what everyone would like, one Florence business is in expansion mode.
Harris Teeter, located on Palmetto Street at Five Points, is in the process of a year-long building project that will increase space by 10,400 square feet and remodel the existing space, corporate communication specialist Catherine Reuhl said.
The store, which employs 50 people, is 32,422 square feet.
“The expansion will bring it north of 40,000 square feet,” Reuhl said.
Tuesday Morning, which had been adjacent to the store, moved down in the shopping center to make room for the expansion, which started with the demolition of part of the shopping center.
Work started Oct. 5 and is slated to be completed in September, Reuhl said.
When completed, the store will feature an expanded farmers market, floral gallery, wine department and fresh foods deli/bakery, she said.
The first phase of the expansion slated for completion includes the fresh foods market, wine section and a new walk-in beer cooler.
Harris Teeter’s expansion follows the completion of Food Lion’s renovation of several of its Florence-area stores.
