Florence School District 1’s School Food Service Department received recognition and awards at the 55th Annual State Conference of the School Nutrition Association of South Carolina.

Three food service employees — Hattie Mitchell of Williams Middle School, Johnnie Warren, a Florence 1 field supervisor, and Betty Haynesworth of West Florence High School — garnered 11 second place, third place and honorable mention state awards in categories ranging from special occasion cake and cookie, to school lunch, logo apron and hors d’oeuvres.

Florence 1 schools received awards for 100 percent membership in the association and schools received honors for certification by the National School Nutrition Association.

The district’s 150 school food service employees, led by director Bill Vaughan, serve more than 10,000 lunches, more than 4,000 breakfasts and more than 1,000 after care snacks per day from 19 school kitchens.
