Employment Security Commission plans Veterans Appreciation Day

The S.C. Employment Security Commission’s Florence Workforce Center will host an open house for Veterans Appreciation Day, allowing veterans to see all of the services offered when seeking employment service assistance.

It will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 10 at 1558 W. Evans St., Florence.

Each of the state’s 36’s work force centers also will showcase a veteran, like Junior Reaves, who successfully transitioned from dedicated service to the nation to employment back in his or her community.

After six years of service, Reaves was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in February.  Mr. Reaves returned home to Marion, to care for his ill grandmother, but had difficulty finding a job.

After several months, Reaves ran in to an old friend in his community, Donnie Hill, who is the assistant area director at S.C. Employment Security Commission’s Marion Workforce Center. Hill encouraged Reaves to visit the veteran representatives at the center before he finalized his decision to re-enlist.  With their help, Reaves became employed as a machine operator close to home within a month of his visit.
