Car wash near Hard Rock Park is unhappy with developer
The owners of the Sandlapper Car Wash, near the old Waccamaw Pottery in Horry County, said they were looking forward to the new development surrounding their property. But now, they aren't so sure.
Merchants, officials look to Hard Rock for more tourists
With the new Market Common shopping complex and Hard Rock Park, businesses are waiting to see if they will bring in new visitors. During the peak season, nearly a half million people visit the Grand Strand. For the past few years, those numbers dropped. Match lower numbers with overdevelopment and that translates to needing a lot more visitors to fill the empty rooms.

Penny tax builds Horry roads
Moving traffic efficiently on congested Horry County Roads was the focus of a penny sales tax vote last November. Horry County voters said "yes" to that referendum, and started paying the tax in May of 2007. County and State officials announced Tuesday, the first of that money has come in from the state- $18,000,000, and the money is now at work. Officials set up chairs and a podium Tuesday afternoon at one of the most congested traffic hot spots in Horry County- the back gate of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base property.
