Cheraw’s RB tandem finally signs

One of the best running back tandems in the state over the past few years finally signed their letters of intent on Thursday, a full five months after signing day.  Cheraw’s Travis Small and Montrell Evans both felt relieved as they were able to solidify their college plans, about a month before it is time to start.

Small signed to play at Coastal Carolina.  He will walk-on, but is promised a scholarship before next year.  Small has said he has enough academic scholarships that affording his first year will not be a problem.  He is the second leading rusher in South Carolina history, and was a four year starter for a team that won two state titles.

Evans signed to play at Newberry.  The Scarlet and Gray have been going through a coaching turnover, and Evans says that’s why his signing process took such a long time.  Evans has had relatives that have played for Newberry, which is why he was so gung ho to head in that direction.

Both players said they expect to play running back at the next level.
