Lynn ends FMU women’s season

HOUSTON — The nationally ranked doubles teams of Lynn captured quick wins at positions one and two and the third-ranked Knights went on to a 5-0 win over seventh-ranked Francis Marion on Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II women’s tennis national finals.
Francis Marion ends its most successful season ever with a 23-3 mark. The Patriots advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in the program’s history. Lynn (24-2) advances to today’s semifinal round.
The 17th-ranked doubles team of Magdalena Ekert and Katerina Jiskrova gave Lynn a 1-0 advantage with an 8-1 win at the No. 2 position. That was followed by the fourth-ranked duo of Victoria Weltz and Alexandra Schunk defeating Francis Marion’s 20th-ranked doubles team of seniors Sarka Vitkova and Jenny Ludwig 8-1 at the No. 1 spot.
Lynn claimed a much tighter 8-6 win at No. 3, handing Tereza Sykorova and Magda Jezovicova only their second loss in 26 decisions this season.
The Knights closed the match with straight-set wins by Alisson Siaci at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0 over Klara Vitkova) and by Ekert at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1 over Valeska Ibscher).
Ludwig was the lone Patriot to win a set, as she led 6-4 over 24th-ranked Katerina Jiskrova at No. 3 singles when the match was decided.
