Thigpen sees change with Chiefs this offseason

Tyler Thigpen has had to prove people wrong his entire career.  No one thought he’d lead CCU to a playoff berth, no one thought he’d get drafted in the NFL, and no one thought he’d start in his second professional season.  He’s done all those things, but he may have had his biggest offseason of change this year.

Despite putting up good offensive numbers in his 10 starts last year, Thigpen is not getting a chance to battle Matt Cassel for the starting job this year.  New head coach Todd Haley told Thig that he would get a shot, but it’s been the 14 million dollar new guy that’s been getting all the snaps with the first team.  Thigpen says that Haley was not the most popular coach when he first took over KC, but that the players are beginning to buy into his system.

The other thing that does not help Thigpen is that he’s lost his biggest cheerleader.  Future hall-of-famer Tony Gonzalez left KC for Atlanta this offseason - last year the tight end said that Thigpen should have the opportunity to be the Chiefs’ quarterback of the future.

Thigpen will challenge Brodie Croyle to be Cassel’s primary backup.
