Three people have died in car crashes in less than 24 hours in Marlboro County.

Two of them died about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at the South Carolina/North Carolina state line on U.S. 15, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

The driver of a 2009 Chevrolet car ran off the road while going around a curve and struck a tree, Collins said. The driver and passenger in the car died at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not been released, but Collins said both were from out of state.

On Monday, Virginia Gray was driving east on Grant’s Mill Road, three miles east of Wallace, in a 1991 Chevrolet when she ran off the road and struck a bridge soon after 10 a.m., according to Highway Patrol reports.

Gray, 50, of Cheraw, later died at an area hospital, Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said. Her age and hometown weren’t available.

Gray had been wearing her seat belt, reports show.
